At the heart of Tamina Amadyar’s practice is an exploration of colour as material, sensory experience and carrier of cultural history. She investigates how materials move between regions, cultures and eras, and how these movements become inscribed in the history of art.
Her exhibition Opaque Waters at Meyer Riegger, Berlin, centres on landscape, light and colour. Following a stay on the Atlantic coast, the sea has become an increasingly significant motif in her work and serves as a point of departure for contemplating the sublime and questions of origin, belonging and perception. Amadyar’s engagement with the sea also draws on the long tradition of landscape painting, from the Renaissance through centuries of Western painting to the present day.
