Cihan Çakmak (born in 1993 in Osterholz-Scharmbeck) lives and works in Berlin and Lisbon. She studied photography in Dortmund (2013–2017) and Lisbon (2016) and completed a continuing education program at the International Center of Photography in New York City. From 2017 to 2023, she studied photography at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in Leipzig, where she was a master’s student under Prof. Tina Bara. Çakmak is the recipient of the Paula Modersohn-Becker Young Artist Award (2020) and the Rössing Prize for Photography (2021), among others. In 2023, she won the ein-blicke Prize at the blicke Film Festival in Bochum for her film where I left you. Her works are held in private and public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig, the Gallery of Contemporary Art Leipzig, the Arendt Collection Luxembourg, the Dresden State Art Collections and the Worpswede Museums / Osterholz District, the Museum Morsbroich in Leverkusen and the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf. In 2025, her first artist’s book, Ez fraktal, was published by SHIFT BOOKS in Berlin.
