27 April until 14 July 2024, park area by Gropius Bau

Joanna Warsza and Benjamin Foerster-Baldenius have curated an art parkour at Gropius Bau that will open on the weekend of 27 and 28 April as an artistic amusement park, reflecting and trying out the society-building and political potential of play. Under the motto of “From Competition to Collaboration”, Radical Playgrounds invites both adults and children to join events, performances, installations and workshops, shifting the focus from conflict to cooperation.

The artistic positions include a Maya-inspired pyramid by Edgar Calel, a skate park developed by Florentina Holzinger, and Céline Condorelli’s large-scale playing field “Play for Today” which looks at gender equality in sports. In a piece by Massimo Furlan, two persons re-enact the 1974 World Cup match between East and West Germany on the border strip where the Berlin Wall used to stand. Other participating artists include Gabriela Burkhalter, Alice Chauchat, Ingela Ihrman, Martin Kaltwasser, Agnieszka Kurant, Joar Nango, Vitjitua Ndjiharine, Tomás Saraceno, Mariana Telleria, The School of Mutants, Irad Verkron and Raul Walch. The art parkour will continue to be developed as an open space for encounters in construction workshops over a period of eleven weeks. raumlabor Berlin are in charge of the architectural implementation.

27. April bis 14. Juli 2024, Parkfläche am Gropius Bau

Der von Joanna Warsza und Benjamin Foerster-Baldenius kuratierte Kunstparcours am Gropius Bau eröffnet am Wochenende vom 27. und 28. April als künstlerischer Vergnügungspark, der das gesellschaftsbildende und politische Potenzial des Spielens reflektiert und ausprobiert. Unter dem Motto „From Competition to Collaboration“ lädt Radical Playgrounds Erwachsene und Kinder gleichermaßen zu Veranstaltungen, Performances, Installationen und Workshops ein und verschiebt den Fokus vom Gegeneinander zum Miteinander.

Zu den künstlerischen Positionen zählen unter anderem eine von der Bauweise der Maya inspirierte Pyramide von Edgar Calel, ein von Florentina Holzinger entwickelter Skatepark und Céline Condorellis großformatiges Spielfeld „Play for Today“, das sich mit der Gleichstellung der Geschlechter im Sport beschäftigt. In einer Arbeit von Massimo Furlan stellen zwei Personen das WM-Fußballspiel von 1974 zwischen Ost- und Westdeutschland auf dem ehemaligen Mauerstreifen nach. Weitere Beiträge kommen u. a. von Gabriela Burkhalter, Alice Chauchat, Ingela Ihrman, Martin Kaltwasser, Agnieszka Kurant, Joar Nango, Vitjitua Ndjiharine, Tomás Saraceno, Mariana Telleria, The School of Mutants, Irad Verkron und Raul Walch. Als öffentlicher Begegnungsraum entwickelt sich der Kunstparcours durch Bauworkshops über elf Wochen lang weiter. Architektonisch wird das Projekt von raumlaborberlin umgesetzt.
