The exhibition “Painting the Town” presents a recent body of work by acclaimed African-American artist Carrie Mae Weems (*1953, Portland, OR, US), one of the most influential voices in contemporary art today. Weems created this series in 2021, in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder and the Black Lives Matter protests across the United States. The resulting photographs transform the scars of civic unrest into powerful visual and political statements.

Galerie Barbara Thumm is delighted to present “Profondeville,” the first solo exhibition by Berlin-based artist Thomas Zipp (*1966, Heppenheim, Germany) on the occasion of Berlin Art Week 2025. It is an honor for the gallery to represent and collaborate with the artist, whose practice has made a significant impact on contemporary art in Germany and beyond. ”Profondeville” introduces a new body of work that reflects Zipp’s sustained engagement with the intersections of history, psychology, and visual form.
