Richard Sides’ second solo exhibition at Schiefe Zähne, Looking At Rooms In A New Light, brings together new works in installation, sculpture, and sound alongside his recent monochromatic paintings. As is typical for Sides, the exhibition itself functions as both a conceptual work and architectural site, as questions of technology and consciousness unfold theatrically. Readymades that carry dust and dirt are installed as ciphers for cosmic scales, presented alongside a new installation that uses suspended blocks of colour activated directly with amplified sound. Abstraction, concrete music and minimalism as canonical concerns of art history are at once referenced and disrupted by Sides’ idiosyncratic network of sound and image.
