Peter Bömmels (born 1951) creates works using acrylic and polymer clay, mixed media with human hair, and marble sculptures. But above all, his focus has always been on painting. Since his artistic beginnings with the Cologne artist group Mülheimer Freiheit, the self-taught artist has remained true to a carefree, trivial aesthetic and populates surreal spaces with his figures and hybrid creatures in his unique visual language, reduced to essential elements and yet open and ambiguous. His pictures tell of big questions and thoughts about the absurdity of our everyday lives as well as mythical dimensions from fairy tales, memories and the ‘eternal cycle’. After the thought-provoking years of minimalism and conceptual art, his humour seems like a liberating blow – even today.
We cordially invite you to the opening of our exhibition Gänge geh’n noch featuring a selection of new paintings by Peter Bömmels tomorrow, on 11 September 2025, from 6 to 10 pm in our rooms on Niebuhrstraße 5 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The artist will be present, and a catalogue is published accompanying the exhibition. Please also note our special opening hours during this weekend, as we are taking part in the currently ongoing Berlin Art Week 2025.
